Course overview
The Intro to TAFE program is offered at an Intermediate level. The purpose of this course is to provide a range of options for young people considering a pathway into VCE or a Certificate II in a particular area of interest.
Semester1: Students will undertake a range of units from the VCAL, VCE and VET and includes participating in a range of career taster programs such as; Horticulture, Multimedia, Sport, Recreation, Retail, Engineering, Cabinet Making and Automotive.
Semester 2: Students will pathway into either Year 11 VCE (Unit 2) or a Certificate II in a Kangan Institute mid- year entry program (subject to meeting existing pre-requisites)

What employment opportunities will I have?
The Introduction to TAFE program develops general skills that increase your eligibility for entry level jobs. After successfully completing this course you can also continue on to higher levels of study. On successful completion of first semester students will pathway into either Year 11 VCE (Unit 2) or a Certificate II in a Kangan Institute mid- year entry program (subject to meeting existing pre-requisites).
What skills will I have when I complete this course?
You will gain skills that increase your employability, such as literacy and numeracy, problem solving and organisational and planning. You will also develop hands-on skills for various industries, general knowledge, interpersonal and study skills.
What qualifications will I receive?
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning at the Intermediate level. and if you chose a vocational certificate course for your 2nd semester then successful completion will result in you being awarded that certificate as well.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
This course can lead to higher level studies at VCE unit 3 - 4 level, or to further studies in the vocational area of the certificate course you chose for your 2nd semester.
Can I apply?
You must have completed year 10 to apply for this course. You can apply if you are 16 to 21 years old and have literacy and numeracy skills sufficient to complete the course.
How do I apply?
Course applications will be taken from October 2011. To apply for this course you must fill in a direct application form which can be obtained from the Institute by calling the Contact Centre on 13 TAFE (13 8233) or email enquiries@kangan.edu.au.
How will I be selected for this course?
You will need to attend an interview and complete a basic literacy and numeracy assessment.
How long is the course?
12 months full-time.
Where and how can I study?
You will study at the Broadmeadows campus.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will be advised in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be provided with this information.
