This resource kit includes learning and assessment materials for the compulsory units of the course and assessment materials for the prerequisite units.
The prerequisite units of competency include:
- HLTAH301A Assist with an allied health program (40 nominal hours)
- HLTCSD201B Maintain high standard of client service (30 nominal hours)
- HLTCSD305B Assist with client movement (20 nominal hours)
- HLTAP301A Recognise healthy body systems in a health care context (70 nominal hours)
- BSBMED201A Use basic medical terminology (30 nominal hours)
- HLTHIR301A Communicate and work effectively in health (20 nominal hours)
- HLTIN301A Comply with infection control policies and procedures in health work (20 nominal hours).
Compulsory units of competency include:
- HLTHIR402B Contribute to organisational effectiveness in the health industry (30 nominal hours)
- HLTHIR506B Implement and monitor compliance with legal and ethical requirements (50 nominal hours)
- HLTOHS300A Contribute to OHS processes in the health industry (20 nominal hours)
- HLTIN403B Implement and monitor infection control policy and procedures (50 nominal hours).
To achieve the Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance, you will need to complete the prerequisite units and compulsory units listed above and you will also need to complete 11 elective units. A wide range of electives is available and can be packaged to provide either:
- a generic qualification that covers a range of work functions, or
- a qualification tailored to address specific workplace requirements.
Course program
If you are a pre-service student, prerequisite units will be delivered first, followed by compulsory and elective units.
If you have experience working in the Allied Health field, you may apply for Recognition for the skills and knowledge covered in the prerequisite units. Talk to your facilitator about what the process involves. Or you could treat the activities as a revision to validate what you know.
The second part of the course covers the compulsory units of competency. Again, if you have the skills and know ledge covered in these units, you may apply for Recognition. Otherwise make the most of the learning materials included in this resource. Each compulsory unit of competency has a learner guide that includes activities to be completed in class time, at work and in your own time. Your instructor will provide you additional with reading and learning activities.
Assessment
Assessment will be ongoing throughout the course. The learning activities that you complete may contribute towards your assessment, and you can also provide evidence from your workplace to show competence in the skills and knowledge covered in each unit of competency. Evidence from the workplace may include workplace documentation that you have completed, such as reports or client care programs, or reports about your work from a supervising allied health professional. You will receive further information about your assessment as you progress through the course.

If you are working in the allied health field, you could start collecting documents from your workplace that may help you to complete the learning activities included throughout this course. The following documents would be useful:
- policies and procedures about:
client confidentiality
occupational health and safety
reporting accidents and incidents - brochures explaining the allied health service provided
- your job description
- example of work instructions
- checklists
- proformas for gathering and recording information
- report proformas.
