Why choose TAFE?

The main aim of all TAFE courses is to get you ready for employment, or improve your performance and skills on the job.. Teachers and trainers are straight out of industry - so they know what kind of skills you need to make it in the area of your choice. TAFE courses are regularly updated and customised to suit the needs of industry.

TAFE classes are smaller, so the learning is done in a more personal, intimate setting. No getting lost in huge lecture theatres! You are an individual, with individual needs as a learner. We know how to help adults who have had prior negative experiences at school and need help with literacy and numeracy. We are used to educating people with English as their second language.

And, whether you come to us from university or from a period out of the workforce or straight from school or to evening classes after a hard day at work, we'll treat you like an adult. It's not like going back to school!

The fees are another bonus - one year of full-time study at TAFE will cost you less than the HECS fees for one unit in many university courses. For part-time study, it's half that again.

If you want to go onto further study, TAFE courses are an excellent starting point to get you into the university degree or post-graduate course of your choice. Most TAFE institutes have partnerships with universities, so you can transfer from our courses with ease.

'I'm constantly applying the lessons I learn at Kangan Institute in my everyday work. We're exposed to equipment we wouldn't normally use. TAFE teachers have always been approachable and are always available if I have needed assistance.'
