Early Childhood Education and Care
By specialising in Early Childhood Education and Care you will have the opportunity to work in a variety of childhood education settings. The qualification attained will determine your role in either a support capacity to more senior staff or as team leader with overall responsibility within the program. Both qualifications involve working to implement an approved learning framework within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard.
Major Study Areas
Certificate III: becoming a professional, providing a safe and healthy environment, caring and nurturing during the early years, extending learning and development and using the national Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF).
Diploma: promoting well-being, fostering learning and development, curriculum planning, taking on a leadership role
Both Diploma and Certificate III graduates can work in a range of early childhood services such as: long day care, occasional care, family day care, vacation care, before and after school care.
Certificate III: This is the entry level qualification required in order to work in early childhood education settings. They support the implementation of the approved learning framework and may work under direct supervision or autonomously.
Job titles may include: early childhood co-educator, assistant educator, early childhood assistant or trained early childhood educator.
Diploma: Educators who have obtained this qualification are responsible for planning, implementing and managing the early childhood program in accordance with legislative requirements and are often responsible for the supervision of other educators, students and volunteers.
Job titles may include: qualified early childhood educator; pedagogical leader; team leader; family day care coordinator; playgroup leader

- There are no set education prerequisites for these courses. However, you will be assessed to ensure that you have satisfactory numeracy, literacy and verbal communication skills to undertake the course.
- The minimum age to work in this field is 18 years, applicants must attain the minimum age by course completion
There is a compulsory work placement component for this course. If you are over 18 years, you will be required to obtain a volunteer Working with Children Check.
