Fashion show extravaganza to unveil Australia’s next fashion stars

Kangan Institute is introducing the next generation of Australian fashion designers through a unique fashion parade, Melbourne Edge, in the heart of our city’s creative precinct, Richmond.

Melbourne Edge will showcase fashion and millinery collections from avant garde and little black dresses, right through to Red Cross upcycled designs. A key highlight is our graduate collection featuring student designer Jessica Lawrence who recently won the 2016 Fashion Awards Australia’s New and Emerging Designer Award.

The event will feature installations from visual merchandising students, hair and makeup from hair and beauty students, as well as food and entertainment from hospitality and music students.

The year’s top fashion and creative students will also be awarded at the show.

“Our industry-focused program and state-of-the-art training environment has allowed our student designers to experiment with the latest practices, technology and trends, and really push the boundaries of fashion design. Technical expertise, innovation and confidence will shine through in our students’ collections,” said Kangan Institute’s creative industries manager Katrina Jojkity.

“This year’s fashion show will be a unique showcase of the holistic spectrum of what we offer here at Kangan Institute, from fashion and creative right through to hospitality and music.

“Our Richmond Centre for Fashion and Creative Industries will be transformed for the extravaganza. In addition to the show, our audience have an opportunity to tour the facility, view one-of-a-kind fashion displays, and explore the Textile and Fashion Hub where our designers produce their amazing garments.”

As one of Melbourne’s leading fashion schools, Kangan Institute featured prominently in top fashion events this year, including the 2016 Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. Students were part of the sell-out High Fashion, High Tea millinery parade, Ecothreads sustainable fashion show, as well as the Emerging Collective Runway.
