Meet our People

Rohan Trusler - Plumbing Trainer

“There were a few things to consider when I made the transition to teaching. I needed to do some study to get my teaching qualification. But I’ve got a family. How could I keep bringing in an income? I found I could work during the day and study at night.”

Siew Ong - 30 year journey

Starting her journey in the Secretarial Studies Department at Broadmeadows College (as it was known back then) in 1993, Siew's career at Kangan Institute and Bendigo TAFE took her on a diverse and enriching path, teaching various courses, and witnessing the institute's growth through significant changes.

Kerri Coakley - 36 years

What will you miss the most about working at Kangan Institute?

That's easy! As much as I have loved my job, it is the people who make this organisation special. There are numerous passionate and dedicated individuals who work tirelessly to provide the best opportunities for students.

Bev Williams

For the past 20 years, Bev Williams has helped more than 1,000 students to plan their next move.

Bev was recognised with a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) on the King’s Birthday 2023 Honours List on 12 June.

Andrew King

Congratulating Andrew King, Head of Procurement, who received the National Emergency Medal for his courageous effort and contributions during the bushfires in 2019-2020.

Vera Maljevac - 37 year journey

What was the most amazing change you have seen at BKI since you have been here?

Most notable was the progressive developments in technology and the introduction of email (no need for individual delivery of memos into staff pigeon holes), also when we switched to course delivery online during COVID-19.

Lorenda Gracey

Lorenda, who works in Corrections, was recently awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in this year’s Australia Day Honours List and she isn’t quite sure what to make of all the fuss. The medal was awarded for her very long years of service to education when she started teaching at Pentridge Prison Education in 1985.

Sally Curtain - Chief Executive Officer

We are thrilled to announce that CEO Sally Curtain has been granted the IPAA Victoria Fellowship.

IPAA Victoria Fellows are drawn from diverse backgrounds and are leaders who act with integrity, upholding IPAA Victoria’s values. Congrats Sally, thank you for your vision and leadership at Kangan Institute.

Alison Hafner - Uncle Norm Hunter Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year
