Learn the Tools of the Trade

This course is designed for those seeking to enter the Supply Chain, Logistics and Warehousing industries. The course is designed to give you all the skills and knowledge you need to begin working in a warehouse environment. As part of this course, you will also undertake training to attain LF Forklift licences.

Once you are enrolled your trainer will contact you and admit you to MyLearning, your online learning platform. You will be given instructions on how the course will run and how you communicate with your lecturer.

You will need to have basic digital literacy for at-home study. If you don’t have access to a computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library computers during library hours.

The nature of online study can involve a significant investment of time and the ability to be a focused, self-motivated learner. You should consider your personal circumstances and past study history before committing to study online.

You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessments may include written, oral or practical assessment methods.

What Skills will I have when I complete this course?

You will gain skills in supply chain operations and can specialize in logistics and warehousing operations within the Transport and Logistics Industry.

You will learn a defined range of skilled operations, usually within a range of broader related activities. These activities involve known routines, methods and procedures, where some discretion and judgement is required in selecting equipment, services or contingency measures within known time constraints. It may also include responsibility for coordinating the work of others. Topics may include:

  • Receiving incoming goods, checking for damage and for discrepancies between goods and invoices
  • Unloading vehicles, opening packages and removing contents

  • Operating computers to obtain details of location and quantity of items in stock

  • Labelling goods with details of storage location

  • Packing and weighing goods and sealing boxes

  • Operating machines to lift, place and remove goods on high levels

  • Operating specialized equipment and checking goods off picking list

  • Assisting and coordinating regular stocktakes

  • Using materials handling equipment, such as hydraulic jacks and hand trucks, to move goods

There are no set prerequisites for this course. However it is recommended that you have satisfactory numeracy and literacy skills to undertake this course or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course. OR You may apply if you have satisfactorily completed VCE or an approved equivalent course and the satisfactory completion of the work requirements (eligibility to transfer); or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course. (Mature age is anyone over the age of 18 who has been out of full-time education for more than 12 months.)
