How to Apply and Enrol at Kangan Institute

Congratulations on choosing to study with Kangan Institute. Enrolling is easy! We have outlined each step so that you can check what needs to be done next, although the exact process will depend on your chosen course and any prerequisites that go with it. 1. SELECT A COURSE

Choose from hundreds of courses online or sit with a career consultant who will work with you to identify the most appropriate course of study for you.  Alternately, you can call us on 13TAFE or send us an enquiry and one of our dedicated advisors will be happy to assist you.

2. APPLY ONLINE

Click on the Apply Now button on the course page and fill in the mandatory fields on the form or contact us on 13TAFE to get your application started. Once you submit your application you will receive confirmation. A teaching department staff member will then contact you to discuss the process and book you in to an information/enrolment session. You will need to create your Unique Student Identifier if you do not have it at the time of the application.

3. GATHER YOUR PERSONAL DOCUMENTS

To complete your enrolment you will be required to provide documentation to prove eligibility for the course. Proof of permanent residency is required for all courses.  Please note that if you are planning on paying for your tuition via the VET Student Loan scheme you will be required to provide additional documentation.

The following documents, either original documents or certified copies, will be accepted as proof of residency:

  • Australian Birth Certificate (not Birth Extract)
  • Current green Medicare card
  • Current Australian or New Zealand Passport
  • Naturalisation Certificate
  • Formal Department of Immigration and Border Protection document confirming permanent residency.

Under 20?

If you are aged under 20 and the document you provide does not include your date of birth, you must also provide proof of age. We accept any of these:

  • Drivers Licence
  • Learner Permit
  • Keypass card
  • Proof of Age card

If you are claiming a concession, you must provide one of the following:

  • Health Care Card
  • Veterans Gold Card
  • Pensioner Concession Card

Under 18?

Parental consent must be given for enrolment in a course. A parental signature is required on the enrolment form on the day of enrolment.

Under 17?

If you are a student who is under 17 and has completed year 10, you must provide a Transition from School form from your school principal to support your application for your chosen course.

If you are a student who is under 17 and has not completed year 10, you must provide correspondence from a Department Regional Director to support your application for your chosen course.  

VET Student Loan (VSL)

VET Student Loans are available for students enrolling in approved Diploma or Advanced Diploma courses. To be eligible for VSL you must meet citizenship, course entry and tax file number requirements and your application must be accepted by the government. If you are under 18, you must also have parental consent.

For citizenship requirements, you must provide documentation to prove you are:

  • An Australian citizen, or
  • A permanent visa holder. This applies to visa subclasses: 200-217, or
  • A qualifying New Zealand citizen. At minimum holds a New Zealand Special Category Visa and meets long term residency requirements. Further information can be found here: https://www.education.gov.au/vet-student-loans

Please note that permanent residents are not eligible for a VET Student Loan.

4. ATTEND AN INFORMATION/ ENROLMENT SESSION

You will be invited to attend an information/enrolment session where your eligibility for a government-subsidised place is tested. Further information on the course is provided and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. You will be required to undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (LLN).

5. LANGUAGE, LITERACY AND NUMERACY ASSESSMENT (LLN) & PRE-TRAINING REVIEW (PTR)

To be eligible for government-subsidised funding or to access a VET Student Loan, you may need to undertake an LLN assessment.

The Pre-Training Review process ensures the training you are applying for will suit you. This process helps to ensure that your chosen course is tailored to your individual needs and capabilities. To be eligible for Victorian Government subsidized funding for your course, through the Skills First scheme, students are required to undertake this process.

6. ENROLMENT

Once you have completed your LLN and PTR, a Kangan Institute team member will sit with you to finalise your enrolment. This includes:

  • Completing an eligibility declaration and enrolment form.  If you are enrolling in 2 courses, you will need to fill in 2 eligibility forms;
  • A registration checklist identifying the units of competency and the number of hours you will be enrolling in;
  • A statement of fees that breaks down each component of your fees including Tuition, Materials, Consumables and the General Services and Amenities Fees;

7. FEE PAYMENT

All completed enrolment forms need to be taken to the enrolment centre at your campus to finalise your enrolment. Payment of fees is required to ensure that you are enrolled in the course and your place is secured.

Payment can be made with cash, cheque, EFTPOS, Credit Card (we do not accept AMEX or Diners Club card).  If your enrolment fees are to be paid through a third party, for example an employer or an employment agency, they must provide an Authority to Invoice letter to indicate this.  Where you are unable to make the full payment of fees on the day of enrolment, Kangan Institute offers a part payment plan. You are required to make an initial payment and the balance of the fee payments are made through debit success, a third party provider.

If you have a valid concession card and the start date on the card is before the course commencement, you may be eligible to have a concession rate applied to your fees. You must provide the original concession card to us so we can retain a copy for our records. You can apply for the concession card through your local Centrelink.

Kangan Institute offers scholarships for a number of courses. To be eligible for a scholarship you must be meet the selection criteria which varies depending on the course. Further information and applications can be found here.

8. ENROLMENT FINALISED

At the enrolment centre a recruitment & enrolment officer will process your enrolment, take payment of fees and issue you with:

  • A confirmation of enrolment which indicate the units you have enrolled in.
  • A receipt for the fees paid by you
  • A student ID card which needs to be carried with you at all times
