Gunung-Willam-Balluk Learning Centre

Wominjeka/Welcome to the Indigenous Education Centre (IEC) at Kangan Institute - your learning partner of choice.

Located in Broadmeadows on the ancestral lands of the Gunung Willam Balluk clan of the Wurundjeri peoples, the IEC has a strong educational reputation for Indigenous Australians in Victoria. With a history stretching back to the 1990s, we help more than 300 students each year take positive steps towards a brighter future and create opportunities for themselves during their educational journey.

IEC is committed to supporting First Nations Organisations state-wide to upskill and develop training programs to suit their needs while supporting the development of nationally accredited courses at Bendigo Kangan Institute.

The building which is also called Gunung-Willam-Balluk Learning Centre is named in honour and after its traditional custodians (Gunung-Willam-Balluk clan) of the Wurundjeri.

We pride ourselves on offering learning in a culturally safe, secure and comfortable environment which provides some of the most dedicated assessors, teachers and trainers in the state to help you meet your training and career goals.

Awarded the 2013 Wurreker Award as the Training Provider/TAFE Institute of the Year, the IEC is a recognised leader and innovator in providing practical education and training that delivers real-world results.

We are committed to the government’s Closing the Gap strategy through education, training and employment opportunities, and regard VET study at the IEC and Kangan Institute as a positive means toward contributing to reducing the gap locally and beyond.

We recognise that in this busy world, today’s learners need flexibility and choice when it comes to training, so we ensured standardised classroom learning was just one of the ways we work. All of our courses are designed to reflect current industry trends and are customised to Indigenous learner/customer needs. Many of our courses offer you the choice of full-time, part-time or flexible learning, and some even have an online option. You can learn in class, at home or even in the workplace.

Outside of our training capabilities, we’re always implementing progressive policies to improve student life and maintain strong commitments to Indigenous community engagement and environmental sustainability.

We look forward to seeing you on board!
