Sama Rind is a shining example of how upskilling can help people grow and make an impact in their roles. Sama took part in a tailored training program for employees of the Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA), where she completed a Certificate IV in Leadership and Management at Kangan Institute.
Reflecting on the course, Sama shared how it’s already making a difference in her work as a manager.
“I’ve developed a better understanding of leading different people, different personalities,” she said.
“I have a set of tools that I can refer to, that I’ve already started using – like risk management resources, team dynamics sheets and all the cool things you end up being able to use.”
Awarded Kangan Institute’s 2025 Uncle Norm Hunter Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year and Trainee of the Year: Professional and Creative, Sama points to many factors at the TAFE contributing to her success.
“The teachers are amazing – the best teachers I’ve ever had,” she said.
“The LMS (learning management) system is excellent – the way you can track submitting assignments. The campus itself is beautiful, (as well as) the resources, worksheets, assessments – everything.”
