Course Overview

Love caring for your pets and thinking of pursuing a career in this area? This course can lead to working with a range of animals providing basic care, maintenance and monitoring the health care and wellbeing of animals.

It is highly recommended that whilst undertaking this qualification, you should have access to a companion animal workplace through either paid employment or substantial periods of work placement or work experience blocks.

You also have the opportunity to enrol in our dual qualification in the Certificate III in Animal Studies (ACM30117) and the Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management (AHC31416).

This unique program is delivered on site at the Collingwood Children’s Farm and will provide you with project-based learning that will make a true difference to help conserve the land, waterways and animals in central Melbourne whilst preserving the unique urban agricultural aspects of the Collingwood Children’s Farm for future generations.

You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will know in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be given this information. Will include work placement.

You will gain skills in Animal Care Management, reception duties, communication, basic animal care, hygiene, animal welfare, nutrition, Occupational Health and Safety, team work, animal handling.

What qualifications will I receive?

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the Certificate III in Animal Studies (ACM30117). As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

After achieving this qualification, candidates may undertake specific industry stream qualifications at certificate IV or diploma level that define higher-level job functions.
