What is VCE VM?

VCE VM stands for 'Victorian Certificate of Education Vocational Major'. It is a senior secondary pathway for Year 11 and 12 students in Victoria that allows students to complete their VCE while focusing on hands-on, practical and work-related learning rather than traditional exam-heavy study.

VCE VM Duration

VCE VM is a two-year applied learning program within the VCE. Students complete core studies in Literacy, Numeracy, Work Related Skills and Personal Development Skills, alongside a Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification. Assessment is primarily school-based, with minimal external exams.

From VCAL to VCE VM

Previously known as VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning), VCE VM replaced VCAL in 2023. While the structure changed, the focus on applied learning and clear pathways to employment and further training remains.

Who VCE VM is For

VCE VM is suited to students who prefer learning by doing, are interested in vocational or trade pathways, and want to develop employability skills while completing their senior secondary certificate.

Key benefits of VCE VM include hands-on learning, vocational training during school, clear post-school pathways, reduced exam pressure, and strong employability skills.
