Our Centre of Fashion visual merchandising students have once again shaken up Melbourne's retail scene with their latest transformation of MYER Doncaster's youth fashion window. The 7.5 metres wide window display titled 'Dreaming of Summer' encapsulates youthful vibrancy by reflecting the upcoming summer season with cheerful tones and a slight hippy influence. The chosen concept was created by visual merchandising student Michelle James based on a brief provided by MYER. This project is part of Kangan Institute's training partnership with MYER which provides our students with an opportunity to design and implement a window display at MYER during the course of undertaking the Diploma of Visual Merchandising. Tony Paterno, national visual merchandising coordinator at MYER, spoke highly of the ongoing Kangan/MYER relationship, which has seen our students put together numerous MYER window displays since early 2009. "I am delighted that MYER is able to partner and support Kangan Institute in this exciting annual initiative," he said. "The student work is again of an extremely high standard." Visual merchandising trainer Kate Carroll said that the project was brilliantly executed by the eight participating students with excellent team work and strong group focus. "This is the first time we have done a youth window for MYER which has been a nice challenge for our students. Our students were able to learn and make the most out of some great feedback from Tony and all in all performed very well with a great amount of enthusiasm," she said. "This project has proved yet again to be a valuable learning platform for our visual merchandisers, bringing industry relevance and project experience to their growing list of credentials." The window display will be up at MYER Doncaster until September 26.
