Building on an ICT pathway to success

It's no secret that Kangan Institute qualifications often lead our students to better jobs and higher education opportunities.

Information communications technology graduate Sam Gungormez is the latest example of a success story. Having recently gained full-time employment as a junior network analyst for the Wettenhalls Group, Sam is now responsible for providing internal support for the transport and logistics company's interstate branches.

This includes support for the company's use of GPS equipment, mobile devices, routers, site security, Microsoft applications and more. Sam, of Broadmeadows, completed a Certificate IV in Information Technology (Networking) in 2007 at Kangan Institute and progressed into the Advanced Diploma of Information Technology (Network Security) in 2008.

After graduating with the advanced diploma, Sam took advantage of Kangan Institute's pathway agreement with La Trobe University to complete the Bachelor of Information Systems in two years. "Kangan Institute's pathway program guaranteed me a place at university, allowing me to continue learning in areas I enjoyed," he said. "To gain more experience during the course of my studies, I also worked part-time in the IT industry as a help desk clerk - I even got promoted six months later."

The twenty-year-old hopes to someday teach and inspire other young people aspiring to build a career in the field. "My journey at Kangan Institute was the best, most fun educational experience in my life and I never looked back after enrolling into the information technology networking program," he said.

"This is the primary reason why I aspire to becoming an IT teacher at TAFE." Kangan Institute's Information Communication Technology (ICT) department offers a great range of options from entry-level courses through to university pathways.

Courses include information technology, computer systems, customer contact, printing and graphic arts and interactive digital media.
