Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation award - Kangan Institute

Kangan Institute’s nursing student Roxanne Riley was awarded the 2018 Australian Nursing & Midwifery Federation (ANMF) – Victorian Branch Student Nurse Award in a presentation ceremony held yesterday.

The award recognised a final year Diploma of Nursing (HLT54121) student who has demonstrated attributes intrinsic to nursing practice, such as excellent communication and interpersonal skills, understanding of ethical and professional nursing, and an appreciation of the concept of excellence in nursing practice.

Ms. Riley said the award affirmed her commitment towards succeeding in her chosen profession.

“I feel really honoured to have been nominated for the award. It was unexpected and I’m very grateful. It highlights that I’m motivated and passionate about caring for others,” she said.

Ms. Riley will be progressing into a graduate program at Northpark Private Hospital in 2019, an opportunity made possible through her studies at Kangan Institute.

“I chose to study nursing because I love caring for people and I’ve always been very interested in health and understanding the physiology of the body,” she said.

“Kangan Institute has helped me with my career goals by offering relevant course modules that provided me with the skills necessary to begin a career in nursing.

“The teachers are nurses with extensive experience and they have always been approachable, supportive and encouraging.

“I’m looking forward to gaining experience in a hospital, and then eventually continuing with my studies and completing the Bachelor of Nursing.”

Kangan Institute CEO Trevor Schwenke congratulated Ms. Riley on achieving the ANMF award and wished her the best for her future endeavours.

“Being recognised by an industry body like ANMF is a fantastic achievement and a clear indication of Roxanne’s skills and passion in this field,” said Mr. Schwenke.

“Kangan Institute is committed to helping our students gain industry skills, experience and exposure so they can start their careers with a strong foundation.

“We’re proud to have played a part in Roxanne’s success and we wish her every success in her next steps.”
