Construction is officially underway on Kangan Institute’s new Sunbury campus – marking the start of works on the community’s first purpose-built TAFE.
The milestone was celebrated onsite by Member for Sunbury Josh Bull MP, marking a major Victorian Government investment in local skills, jobs and opportunity for one of the state’s fastest-growing regions.

Backed by a $25 million Victorian Government investment, the new campus will bring formal vocational education and training to Sunbury for the first time, giving residents access to high-demand skills without needing to travel long distances.
Scheduled to open in 2028, the Sunbury campus will offer programs in areas like digital technologies, hair and beauty, education support, vocational English and more. These programs will help local people gain job-ready skills and support employers to meet workforce needs across the region.
Designed by Spowers Architects, the nearly 3,000m2 campus will accommodate up to 200 students at any one time and will feature flexible classrooms, breakout spaces and a welcoming student hub. First Nations perspectives are embedded throughout the design through consultation with Traditional Owner representatives.
Construction is being delivered by McCorkell Constructions, who bring deep expertise in complex builds and a strong commitment to partnering with local stakeholders, ensuring the Sunbury campus is constructed to the highest standard.
Located at 7 Evans Street and 2-4 O’Shanassy Street, the campus has been shaped through engagement with community, schools, industry and Traditional Owners to ensure it reflects local needs and aspirations.

With Sunbury’s population forecast to more than double by 2046, the new campus will play a critical role in strengthening the local workforce pipeline and expanding access to education for young people, career changers and jobseekers.
Training in Sunbury is already underway
Interim training delivered at the Hume Global Learning Centre (Sunbury) is already creating strong local outcomes, with early programs including the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Among the first graduates was Sunbury local and registered nurse, Renee Ridington, who completed her training and assessment qualification at the centre and is now teaching secondary students in allied health while continuing her nursing career.
Renee’s story shows how accessible, local training is already strengthening skills and opportunities ahead of the new campus opening.
