Cultivating groundbreaking skills in local horticulture

Oasis Horticulture and Kangan Institute celebrated the successful completion of their ‘ground-breaking’ horticulture training program supporting local employment, production and skills development this Wednesday.

Up to 34 permanent and casual employees graduated with a Certificate III in Horticulture (AHC30716) thanks to an industry first partnership which saw a tailored qualification delivered onsite in Devon Meadows.

Oasis Horticulture Pty Ltd is Australia's premier producer and distributor of bedding plants. Kangan Institute is a leading provider of vocational education and training in Melbourne.

Together, Oasis Horticulture and Kangan Institute developed a customised training program that could be implemented onsite during work hours which meant staff could elevate their knowledge and expertise while on the job.

Kangan Institute CEO Sally Curtain said she was thrilled with the outcome of this pioneering program.

“This was a highly successful pilot program, encompassing a blend of classroom instruction and practical on-the-job assessments, uniquely catered to the needs of the Oasis Horticulture,” said Ms Curtain.

“Staff are now significantly upskilled with a national qualification, so they can work successfully across the business, improving retention and job satisfaction.

“We hope that this partnership inspires other horticultural businesses in Victoria to consider similar training models to upskill their employees and increase motivation in the workplace.”

Oasis staff were recognised at a special graduation event on Wednesday 13 December 2023.

Industry representatives were in attendance at the event with Ms Jordan Crugnale MP presenting certificates on the day.
