Kangan Institute has unveiled the designs of its new Sunbury Campus, bringing the community one step closer to a future-ready TAFE that will deliver high-demand skills and local opportunity.
The designs were launched by the Minister for Skills and TAFE the Hon Gayle Tierney MP in Sunbury this week. Backed by $25 million in Victorian Government funding, the campus is being designed by Spowers Architects and scheduled to open in mid-2028.
The new campus will support Sunbury’s fast-growing population – forecast to more than double by 2046 – and is being shaped through consultation with community, schools, industry and Traditional Owner representatives to reflect local needs and aspirations.

What’s planned:
· Purpose-built spaces for in-demand training: The campus will offer facilities to deliver future programs in areas like hair and beauty, digital technologies, education support, vocational English and more – helping locals gain job-ready skills and supporting employers to address workforce shortages. Kangan Institute is working with schools and employers to expand course offerings to meet local needs.
· Engaging and welcoming learning environments: Designed to accommodate up to 200 students at any one time, the campus will feature a student hub, flexible classrooms and breakout areas. The design incorporates First Nations perspectives through integrated elements and artwork, informed by consultation and contributing to a culturally inclusive environment.
· Central location: Located close to the town centre and public transport, the campus will span nearly 3,000 square meters across 7 Evans Street and 2-4 O’Shanassy Street.
The Sunbury Campus builds on Kangan Institute’s proven track record in delivering high-quality capital projects, including the $60 million Health and Community Centre of Excellence at Broadmeadows Campus. It will also align closely with Kangan Institute’s trades-focused Melton Campus, also set to open in 2028, in partnership with the Victorian Government.
New milestone for interim training in Sunbury
Kangan Institute’s first group of training and assessment students in Sunbury has recently completed their studies, through training delivered at Hume Global Learning Centre (Sunbury). The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment prepares learners to be qualified teachers or assessors in vocational education.
Interim training has been offered at the centre since 2024 to support the region’s rapid growth. Other courses include vocational English and expanded vocational options for secondary school students from 2026.
