An innovative program creating new pathways for young people has been recognised with a major win at the 2026 Victorian Training Awards.
Kangan Institute’s Melton NextSteps Program won the Industry Collaboration Award at the Victorian Training Awards gala held on 18 September.
The award recognises an impactful program that brought together Kangan Institute, Lendlease and Melton Secondary College to improve student engagement and attendance while creating pathways to apprenticeships, further study and employment.

The pilot program helped young people stay engaged in school while exploring careers in construction.
Delivered ahead of Kangan Institute’s new Melton Campus, which will open in 2028, the Melton NextSteps initiative built on Kangan Institute's experience delivering similar programs across Victoria, while introducing a new industry-led model designed with Lendlease and Melton Secondary College.
At the awards gala, Kangan Institute also celebrated the success of cybersecurity student Masoumeh Bayat, who was finalist for Vocational Student of the Year, recognising her journey in rebuilding her career in a new country and securing work in a growing digital industry.
“TAFE gave me more than qualifications, it gave me momentum,” Masoumeh said.
“The practical, industry‑driven training allowed me to enter cyber security early and contribute with confidence.”
The Victorian Training Awards are the state's premier celebration of vocational education and training excellence, recognising outstanding students, teachers, employers and training providers who are shaping Victoria's future workforce.
