Kangan Institute and TFIA partnership receives honourable mention at national awards for the Textile and Fashion Hub

On 8 November 2012, the annual Business/Higher Education Round Table ( B-HERT) Awards were held in celebration of educational and industry achievements across the country.

Kangan Institute with industry partner Textile and Fashion Industries of Australia ( TFIA) were acknowledged with an honourable mention under the Outstanding Achievement in Vocational Education and Training Collaboration category.

B-HERT recognised the importance of developing our unique and innovative Textile and Fashion Hub as part of the Centre of Fashion campus in Richmond. The collaboration, launched earlier this year, has resulted in the creation of a state-of-the-art learning and research centre which specifically focuses on the needs of industry participants with modern equipment ranging from a 3D body scanner to digital fabric and garment printers.

Within six months of its opening, the centre has attracted more than 700 local business and industry participants who have benefitted from customised skilling programs and access to new, cutting-edge technologies that would not have been possible prior to the facility's inception.

The award was presented by the Acting Prime Minister Senator Chris Evans to TFIA CEO Jo Kellock and Kangan Institute's Business Services Group GM Brett MacLeod.

Having already been awarded first place under the Industry Collaboration category during this year's Victorian Training Awards, the success of this collaboration has received recognition far and wide from within the industry and government bodies.

B-HERT's latest acknowledgement further recognises the hard work and effort Kangan Institute's team with its TFIA partners have undergone in establishing this facility, as well as the growing respect Kangan Institute's Centre of Fashion commands within the textile, clothing and footwear (TCF) sector.
