A new TAFE campus for Sunbury is a step closer, with Kangan Institute appointing McCorkell Constructions to build the $25 million facility ahead of its planned opening in 2028.
This major milestone for the development is designed to bring a purpose-built TAFE campus to one of Melbourne’s fast-growing communities, with Sunbury’s population forecast to more than double by 2046.
For local students, it’s more than a new building, it means access and opportunity. The new TAFE campus will make it easier for people to train close to home, opening up more pathways into skills, jobs and further study.
Key features include:
· Training for local demand: Purpose built spaces will support programs in areas such as hair and beauty, digital technologies, education support and vocational English – helping locals gain job-ready skills and supporting employers to address workforce shortages. Course offerings will continue to evolve in partnership with schools and industry.
· Welcoming, flexible learning spaces: Designed to accommodate up to 200 students at any one time, the campus will feature a student hub, adaptable classrooms and breakout areas. First Nations perspectives will be reflected through integrated design elements and artwork, informed by consultation.
· Accessible location: Located close to the town centre and public transport, the campus will span nearly 3,000 square meters across 7 Evans Street and 2-4 O’Shanassy Street.
Backed Victorian Government funding, the campus is being designed by Spowers Architects and scheduled to open in mid-2028. The campus and its training options has been shaped through consultation with community, schools, industry and Traditional Owner representatives to reflect local needs and aspirations.
Working with McCorkell Constructions, the build will focus on delivering a high-quality TAFE learning environments, alongside strong social procurement and sustainability outcomes.
The Sunbury Campus builds on Kangan Institute’s delivery of major capital projects, including the Health and Community Centre of Excellence at Broadmeadows Campus. It will complement the trades-focused Melton Campus, which is also set to open in 2028.
