Course overview

This course will provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to confirm collection requirements, prepare client and equipment and collect specimens following the special procedures that apply for drugs of abuse testing.

This course is in accordance with the Australian Standards:

  • AS/NZS 4308-2008 Procedures for specimen collection and the detection and quantitation of drugs of abuse in urine
  • AS 4760-2019 Procedures for specimen collection and the detection and quantitation of drugs in oral fluid.

Learning outcomes

This course will provide you with additional skills in performing drug and alcohol testing in workplaces such as pathology collection centres, hospitals, medical centres, construction sites, mine sites, transport and logistics and other workplaces where the need for drug and alcohol screening is required to meet Workplace Health and Safety standards.

What you receive at the completion of the course?

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment: HLTPAT005 Collect specimens for drugs of abuse testing.

Pre-requisite & eligibility requirements

You must be 18 years of age or over and complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy assessment at Level 3 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF)
