Grace Amore - using her voice for change.

I chose to study the Diploma of Justice (22594VIC) because I wanted a course aligned with my work and passion in the community sector, particularly in the area of family and domestic violence. The course was subsidised, close to home, and structured in a way that felt physically manageable at the time. I was rebuilding my life and health after domestic violence and needed something purposeful to help guide my next steps.

During my studies, I was also completing my memoir, Saving Grace: Rise Above Domestic Violence, which shares my lived experience of abuse, trauma, medical gaslighting, and recovery. Studying justice while documenting my story was powerful. The learning gave language and clarity to experiences I had struggled to understand for many years.

My experience in the Diploma of Justice was both challenging and deeply supportive. I am very grateful to the justice teaching team for their care, encouragement, and understanding throughout the course.

I faced ongoing physical challenges, including pain and fatigue, and at times it was difficult to remain present in class. Completing the course while finalising and publishing my memoir was demanding, and I am genuinely proud that I was able to do both.

The practical knowledge I gained around legal processes and reporting had a direct impact on my life. After publishing my book, the course strengthened my understanding of justice and gave me the confidence to move forward with reporting what had happened in my marriage. It affirmed my commitment to advocacy.

My goal is to continue advocating in the areas of domestic violence and women’s health, using both my lived experience and my education to contribute to greater awareness and change.

My advice to future students is to know your reason for studying. A clear “why” will carry you through the difficult moments. For me, having purpose made all the difference.
