My name is Kingnapha Keohavong, but most people call me Nouknick. I’m from Vientiane Capital, Laos.
I chose this course because I believe it will help me better understand people and how to work with them effectively. In many of my roles, I work with people from diverse backgrounds, so learning how to approach and support them appropriately is very important to me.
To be honest, this course has been beyond what I expected. At first, I thought it would mainly focus on how to help people in need. However, I realized that this is only a small part of it. The course also teaches us how to understand people’s situations, perspectives, and the underlying factors that affect their lives.
Another thing I really enjoy is that the course does not focus heavily on theory. Instead, it emphasises practical learning. I love the way we can openly discuss ideas in class, and there is no strict right or wrong answer. Everyone is open to each other—we listen, we share, and we respect different opinions.
So far, everything is going well. I now understand the purpose of the course more clearly, and I am able to connect what I learn with the context of my home country.
After completing the course, I plan to continue the work I have already started and further develop my career. I hope to keep working with UN agencies or international NGOs in Laos. I am also very interested in fieldwork because it allows me to interact directly with communities and better understand issues from the root causes. At the same time, I see this as a great opportunity to apply what I have learned at Kangan and in Australia, especially in community services, to help improve the living conditions of people in Laos.
I truly enjoy studying here, especially in this course. The teachers are very friendly and approachable, and the study materials are well prepared. I also appreciate that the timetable fits well with my lifestyle, which allows me to balance my studies while exploring job opportunities and gaining more experience in Australia.
