Meet Acsonekham Vongxay (Eimm)

My name is Acsonekham VONGXAY (Eimm) and I am proud to be an Australia Awards scholar from Laos.

Growing up, I was always drawn to the idea of giving back. The community services and volunteer work I did back home shaped me into someone who believes deeply in helping others. That passion inspired me to pursue further education and receiving the Australia awards scholarship to study in Australia has truly been a privilege, one that changed my life in ways I never expected.

Coming here gave me many “first-time” experiences, each one teaching me something new about myself. One of the most meaningful parts of my learning journey has been my placement work. Being hands-on in the community services field, in a completely foreign environment, opened my eyes to new perspectives and helped me grow professionally. It wasn’t just about completing academic requirements, it was about discovering who I could become and how I could contribute.

My academic experience has given me knowledge, confidence and a clearer sense of purpose. I carry with me not only what I learned in the classroom, but also the lessons I learned from people, cultures and everyday moments. When I return to Laos, I am determined to bring these lessons home and contribute to the community services sector. My hope is simple: to make a positive difference, even in small ways.

This journey has made me stronger, more open-minded, and more connected to the world. I am grateful for every challenge, every opportunity and every person who walked beside me. Being here has shaped me into someone who believes that kindness, courage, and education can truly change lives.

Along the way, I have been blessed with wonderful friendships that turned unfamiliar spaces into places of comfort. We shared stories, supported each other and created memories that I will always carry with me. These friendships played a huge role in making my time here unforgettable. For me, studying at Kangan Institute has been more than just an academic experience. It has been a journey of growth, connection, and learning about how education can open doors and create opportunities for a better future.
