When I finish, I’m still deciding whether to continue on to a bachelor’s degree or work in aged care. I really loved my first aged care placement. I enjoyed being there for people, being a friend to them, and supporting them. If I do go on to further study, I’d like to work in palliative care. My dad recently passed away in palliative care, and being there for him, as well as other patients, showed me the impact simply being present can have.
My advice to anyone considering study or a career change is not to give up, even when things become chaotic. It’s important to stay on top of your work, but also to look after yourself and avoid burnout.
I’m a big reader and I prioritise sleep. I don’t stay up late studying. I set a designated bedtime and find what works for me. I know I need my sleep, and when I get it, I can manage everything much better. I prefer studying early in the morning rather than late at night, and that routine helps me take care of myself.
I’m currently juggling work and study, which can be challenging. I work two days a week in retail and I’m lucky to have a supportive store manager who encourages me to continue my studies. Being able to balance both has helped me stay motivated and focused on my goals.
