What will I study?

Candidates will study a number of building and construction competencies. Some of the course modules for this certificate includes:

  • Work safely in the construction industry
    Candidates will be required to undertake Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) induction training within reference to the construction industry. This unit requires the ability to demonstrate personal understanding of OHS legislative requirements, and the fundamental principles of risk management and prevention of injury and illness in the construction industry.
  • Workplace safety and site induction
    Safe work practices are crucial to the workplace, this module is to introduce the participant to the building and construction industry and provide the skills, ability and knowledge required to warrant the safety of themselves and others while working.
  • Building structures
    Within this module students will be provided with the skills, ability and knowledge to identify various building structures found in the commercial and housing districts of the building and construction industry.
  • Introduction to scaffolding and working platforms
    The aim of this module is to provide candidates with the skills, ability and knowledge to understand the safe erection, use and disassembly of restricted height scaffolding.
  • Levelling
    Throughout this module students be provided with the skills, ability and knowledge to determine and apply levelling techniques and the explanation of techniques in the building industry.
  • Interior fittings
    The purpose of this module is to provide the participant with the skills, ability and knowledge to apply a range of interior fittings and applications of techniques in the building industry.
  • Introduction to demolition
    There are a lot of precautions to consider before a demolition takes place. This module is to provide students with the skills, ability and knowledge necessary to demolish internal structures.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will show that students have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical methods. You will be advised in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be provided with the information. This may provide candidates to enter the workforce to access a broad range of employment opportunities in various fields.

What employment opportunities will I have?

Once you have completed the Certificate II in Building and Construction Pre-apprenticeship (22338VIC) you will have completed part of the theoretical component of the relevant apprenticeship/Certificate III. This will assist you to enter an apprenticeship in a chosen area of study. Candidates may also be able to use some credits towards your apprenticeship.
