Learning. Listening. Walking together.

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all of us to reflect, learn and take meaningful action towards reconciliation.

At Kangan Institute, Reconciliation Week is about creating space for conversation, deepening understanding, and strengthening relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and communities.

Our commitment to reconciliation

Reconciliation at Kangan Institute is guided by our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2024–2026, which sets out clear, practical actions to build stronger relationships, deepen respect, create opportunities and embed reconciliation across teaching, learning and leadership.

Our RAP supports:

  • Stronger partnerships with First Nations communities
  • Improved cultural capability across our workforce
  • More inclusive learning environments for students
  • Pathways that support First Nations participation, employment and success

Reconciliation is not a moment. It’s ongoing work, embedded in how we learn, lead and grow.

Join us during Reconciliation Week

Kangan Institute will host an interactive Reconciliation Week event designed to bring our community together to listen, learn and connect.

Upcoming event

  • When: Wednesday 27 May, 12.00–2.00 pm
  • Where: Broadmeadows Campus
  • What to expect: Welcome to Country, cultural experiences, learning activities and opportunities to connect

Everyone is welcome. Registration is required.

Support and resources to help you learn and engage

At Kangan Institute, reconciliation is supported by practical resources and dedicated teams that help staff and students learn, engage and participate respectfully.

Whether you are new to reconciliation or continuing your learning journey, we provide guidance, spaces to learn, and access to culturally informed support across our campuses. These resources are available year‑round and are especially highlighted during Reconciliation Week to encourage participation, reflection and conversation.

Indigenous Engagement Centre (IEC)

The Indigenous Engagement Centre (IEC) at Kangan Institute plays a central role in advancing reconciliation across the organisation.

The IEC:

  • Supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to succeed in study
  • Leads cultural engagement, education and community connection
  • Provides guidance to staff and students on culturally respectful practice
  • Helps embed reconciliation principles across programs, services and campuses

During Reconciliation Week, the IEC helps create opportunities for learning, conversation and shared understanding, supporting everyone at Kangan Institute to engage respectfully and meaningfully.
