VicRoads Heavy Bus Tester Technical Examiner course - one day

This Heavy Bus Tester course covers the accreditation component for participants to be aware of and understand their responsibilities in examining Large Buses (LB) More than 4.5 Tons in in accordance to VicRoads Requirements.

This course also covers the Bus Technical Inspection component from the National Heavy Vehicle Inspection Manual (NHVIM).

VicRoads Licensed Vehicle Tester Buses examiners will use the NHVIM to inspect and test a vehicle using the Bus Tester Examiner manual with the current equipment required under Licensed Vehicle Tester Licence conditions.

Assessments will be carried out throughout the course and at the end of the technical inspection section.

Pre-requisites / Eligibility requirements:

To be eligible to attend this course, you must work in a VicRoads accredited Licenced Vehicle Tester business (as specificity **authorise to test vehicle category – LB).

Prior to being accepted to attend this course, you will be required to sit an online assessment to assess your Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LL&N).

You must also:

  • be a qualified motor mechanic with light or heavy vehicle experience to VicRoads requirements
  • hold a current Australian Driver’s Licence

** if you are currently not working in a VicRoads accredited  Licenced Vehicle Tester (LVT) business or the LVT business is currently yet to have category – LB, you will need to contact the VicRoads Vehicle Safety & Compliance Department and provide us with a letter from VicRoads which allows you to undertake the course.

Participant requirements:

You will need to present your current Australian driver’s licence and your motor mechanic qualification (the originals or a certified copy).

You are required to provide and wear safety clothing and footwear, such as long sleeve shirt and pants (preferably overalls) and full covered closed shoes (preferably work boots or shoes).

Personal protective equipment such as eye and hearing protection will be supplied; however you may bring your own.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course you will:

  • be aware of the roadworthy requirements for the type of bus you are working on
  • be able to access information and standards required when completing a roadworthy inspection
  • be able to complete all documentation and access information required to test and examine a bus

What you receive at the completion of the course:

An examiners accreditation card and a certificate will be issued to participants who successfully complete the course.
