Hume Tech School opens its doors to 20,000 future innovators

More than 20,000 students across Melbourne's north will gain access to cutting edge STEM learning following the official opening of Hume Tech School.

The $15.47 million Victorian Government investment is designed to connect young people with the skills and industries shaping the state’s future.

Located at Kangan Institute’s Broadmeadows campus, the Hume Tech School will give students from 28 secondary schools in the region free access to hands-on science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) programs, designed in partnership with industry.

From robotics and advanced manufacturing to digital technologies and engineering, students will tackle real world challenges, explore emerging industries and build the skills needed for the jobs of the future.

Member for Broadmeadows Kathleen Matthews-Ward MP joined educators, community representatives, industry and future students to open the facility, celebrating a significant investment in Victoria’s future talent in one of Australia's fastest growing regions.

Bringing together schools, industry and TAFE, the Hume Tech School creates opportunities for young people to learn through practical experiences, develop innovative solutions and explore pathways into careers in high-demand sectors.

The Tech School will support more than 100 students and staff at any time and features flexible learning zones, industry-aligned equipment and collaborative spaces designed to spark creativity and innovation.

Designed through consultation with students, schools, First Nations Elders, industry and community groups, the Hume Tech School is a living laboratory, a sustainable, future-ready space with interactive learning built into its architecture.

The Tech School will inspire thousands of students each year, strengthening pathways into high demand sectors such as advanced manufacturing, automation, renewable energy, healthcare, construction, transport and logistics, and data analytics.
