Kangan Institute presents top international graduate awards

Kangan Institute has presented outstanding student awards to three students at its 2019 Mid-Year International Graduation Ceremony held yesterday.

They include:

  • 2019 Outstanding International Student – Automotive: Fredrick Milal Onaput, of St Albans (originally from Papua New Guinea)
  • 2019 Outstanding International Student – Professional Industries: David Moore, of Middle Park (originally from United Kingdom)
  • 2019 Outstanding International Student – Creative Industries: Nadine Aurin, of Southbank (originally from Germany)

Originally from Papua New Guinea, Fredrick said he chose to enrol in Kangan Institute to build a career in automotive.

“I used to work in technical schools in the automotive field, so I was inspired to build more skills in that trade,” said the 38-year-old who was also Student Speaker at the ceremony.

“I chose to study automotive at Kangan Institute because of its great facilities and instructors. A lot of the teachers have skills from industry, which they bring to class.

“The automotive program also offers a job placement, which helps us learn more than just theory and gain work experience while we study. I’ve worked for about two years as a trade assistant as part of my placement.”

With a qualification and award under his belt, Fredrick is now ready to take the next steps in his career.

“I feel really privileged to be nominated for this award. It means a lot to me and my family and reminds me of the hard work and commitment put towards my two years of study,” he said.

“I’m glad that this achievement will also open new opportunities in the near future.

My plan after graduation is to get a full-time job in an automotive workshop, and then apply for a Trade Recognition Australia (TRA) certificate and eventually become a skilled automotive technician in Australia.”

Kangan Institute’s CEO Phill Murphy congratulated all graduates and award winners for their achievements.

“On behalf of Kangan Institute I’d like to congratulate all the graduates and award winners for their successes. Their achievements highlight the significance of vocational education and training in transforming lives, shaping communities and providing value to industry,” he said.

Kangan Institute’s 2019 Mid-Year International Graduation Ceremony celebrated the achievements of more than 40 international graduates, with family, friends and Kangan Institute staff part of the festivity.
